I haven’t been following the ‘crisis’ in Iraq for some time now, but each time I hear something, I can’t help but feel that we’re making ourselves look like complete idiots the longer we keep prodding them.

What did we think we were going to find, by staking so much of everything on the inspectors — that Sadaam was going to conveniently have beta nuke warheads in museums? An LA Times article I read just before Christmas reported that the inspectors have found absolutely zilch, and after hearing Ari Fleischer brief the press this morning, “weapons of mass destruction..include chemical/bio weapons, not necessarily nukes” seems to be the spin for now. And they haven’t even found those, either.

I think I gave the President the benefit of the doubt by keeping open the possibility that the government has strong, substantive evidence, but after seeing how the U.S. is dealing with North Korea, when the North Koreans have said point-blank, “Hey, we’re cooking stuff, screw you,” it does seem a lil more plausible that maybe George was bored. Or that he’d rather fight Evil than Unemployment.
